Texas UCC Search
Sosdirect UCC
Quick answer. Texas UCC search and filing moved to SOSPortal. SOSDirect remains a separate login and is not the account SOSPortal uses. A Texas UCC search runs in SOSPortal. Create an SOSPortal account, not an SOSDirect account. Each web search is $1, paid before results, including a search that finds nothing. You can search by filing number, debtor, or secured party.

Steps
-
Create an SOSPortal login
The Secretary of State says SOSDirect credentials will not work on SOSPortal.
-
Pay the $1 search
The fee is due before the search, even if the answer is no records. The FAQ says so.
-
Choose debtor, number, or secured party
Debtor is the usual choice for “what is filed on this company.”
-
Download the plain copy
Certificates are a further $15 in the how-to guide. Order one only if you need it.
SOSDirect is not the current Texas UCC front door
The Secretary of State’s UCC pages say to create an SOSPortal account, open Search & Order Records, pay the $1 search fee, and choose Uniform Commercial Code. You can search by filing number, debtor, or secured party.
Certificates are an additional fee, listed as $15 in the UCC how-to guide. Email for UCC help is UCC_Assist@sos.texas.gov. Corporations phone remains (512) 463-5555 for the office, and UCC questions are directed to that UCC mailbox.
SOSPortal is the UCC door
The Secretary of State’s UCC section says paper filings stopped and the UCC portal is inside SOSPortal. The how-to guide walks through Search & Order Records, the Uniform Commercial Code tile, and a $15 certificate if you order one. UCC email is UCC_Assist@sos.texas.gov.
SOSDirect still exists for other business services and is a separate password. Signing in there does not open the new UCC search. A Texas UCC statement request is the search you just paid for, not a different free form.
Common mistakes
- Using SOSDirect for a new UCC search.
- Expecting a free Texas UCC name search.
- Sending paper UCC filings.
- Confusing the corporation SOSDirect fee with the UCC portal fee and then skipping the receipt.
